Our sister company Obelisque Design has been producing its Blacksmith range of outdoor sign frames and posts for 5 years and has gathered together a range of off the shelf best selling sign products. All signs are suitable for outside use and are fully galvanised or made from aluminium. We can supply just posts and frames or complete with vinyl or acrylic graphics. The signs come completely powder coated in a range of colours or can be left in their silver galvanised state if preferred .

What back board best suits your sign needs

3mm Foamboard.

This is best suited to interior signage for walls or hanging from ceilings. For outside use this should be restricted to mounting into small frames no bigger than 2ft x 3ft and in a position of low exposure to the elements i.e not in windy areas or high up on posts or by sides of roads.

5mm Foamboard

As above but more rugged and can be mounted into larger frames of 3ft x 3ft. Caution should observed if high exposure to elements is expected if in doubt go to 10mm Foamboard.

10mm Foamboard

Much more rugged than above can be mounted straight onto walls or into frames up to 6ft x 3ft.

Foamboard & Marine ply

The toughest of all backboards can be mounted in most places and frames up to 8ft x 4ft in one piece.

Magnetic vinyl signs

Mainly suited to van style signs max size of 2ft x 4ft.

Aluminium Backboard

A lightweight version of Foamboard & marine ply and is available up to 8ft x 4ft. Ideal for small swinging signs and pavement signs up to 3ft x 2ft. larger signs must be mounted into frames.

Laser Engraved Board

Only available in black or white lettering/graphics up to a maximum board size of 4ft x 3ft. Not suitable for outdoor use except in small wall style signs no bigger than 2ft x 1ft .Mainly suited to indoor door signs and similar indoor usage.

How to work out vinyl sign boards 

1. Decide the size of sign you require .Example 1.5 ft x 2ft =3sq ft.

2. Choose what type of backboard suits your application. See explanation of backboard suitability above.

3. If you require artwork there is a one off charge which you can deduct if supplying your own artwork in a HPGL format.

4. Multiply sign size by cost of first colour. Example 3 sq ft x£ 6.50 =£19.50

5. Multiply sign size by cost of each additional colour if required. Example 3sq ft x £2.50 =£7.50

6. If you require the sign to be double sided multiply both figures above by 2. Example £19.50 + £7.50 x 2 = £54.00

So a 3ft sq double sided 3mm board in 2 colours will cost £54.00 + £10.00 artwork charge = £64.00+V.A.T

N.B We charge a set fee of £10.00 to mount our vinyl boards into our range of metal signs

Acrylic signboards

Acrylic sign boards are a much more professional glossy looking sign and are only suited to static fixed wall frames or free standing frames. Each letter is individually laser cut and mounted on to a coloured acrylic background. The thickness of letter is normally 3 or 5mm thick giving a raised 3d effect. The maximum size of character we can laser cut is 4ft x3ft and backboards come in a maximum size 10ft x 6ft .We charge for our acrylic signs per character and size.

As a rough example we would charge £4.75 per 300mm high character in 3mm acrylic mounted on to a coloured acrylic backboard .Backboards are charged at a rough price of £3.95 per sq ft. So the word “SIGN” mounted on to a 2ft 6” x 1ft 3” backboard would cost £31.00 + artwork and V.A.T.

We keep a range of small ready made black signs in stock, but most are made to order and you should allow 28 days for delivery. Many of our metal framed signs are not available to order from our on-line shop as there are various options and considerations to be looked at before purchasing a sign, such as building permission and footings. Once you have decided on your style and size you should telephone or email our sales team who will go through options and other important details. You will then be able to purchase your sign there and then if you require.
